SquishySquishy is a 1-year-old Pekingese Cross who came to us because her owner wasn’t able to care for the number of pets that she owned. Upon her arrival, Squishy’s transition into a shelter environment was very stressful for her, and she was very frightened, due to her limited socialization. She’d lived in a home, but had never had the opportunity to meet many new people. And once her brother and puppy were adopted, she became overwhelmed by being alone because she didn’t have enough confidence yet on her own.

To help her, our Behavior Specialists worked to build trust, gradually letting her become used to the idea of a stranger. We brought her around our Main Campus to let her see new people – children, young people, adults – all while encouraging her to realize that people are friendly, and meeting new people is exciting!

After some time in our Behavior Modification program, Squishy graduated today! She’s a very sweet, adorable, bouncy little dog, waiting for a loving new home.

You can meet her at our Big Blue Adoption Center, located at 615 Virginia St. SE, and open 10 am – 6 pm daily: https://goo.gl/2iHNTI
