Pet Surrender

Notice:

We cannot currently accept any walk-in surrenders or strays at this time unless the animal was previously adopted from Animal Humane New Mexico.

For additional resources, please see below.

Policies

Animal Humane New Mexico is a managed admissions facility that conducts all intakes by appointment.

Admissions are accepted only at our main location at 615 Virginia St SE.

Every animal being considered for intake must pass handling assessments upon admission. If the animal is deemed a non-admission candidate, Animal Humane staff will attempt to provide additional resources.

Admissions Hours

Mon–Wed: 10 am–12 pm & 1–4 pm

Thurs-Saturday: 1-4 pm

As a managed-admissions facility, all intakes require an appointment.  However, we will attempt to accommodate strays and walk-in surrenders based on time and shelter capacity.

If you’ve found an adult stray pet, please try to reunite them with their owner first:

If you would like to inquire about a surrender appointment, please call and leave our Admissions Team a voicemail at 505.255.5523 Ext. 115. Please allow our admissions team 48-72 business hours to respond to any admission inquiry.

Please note, Animal Humane New Mexico is not accepting surrenders of dogs that were not adopted from our organization at this time.

Fees
