Every year, thousands of people gather at Doggie Dash & Dawdle to help homeless pets. We are so honored by your dedication to helping transform the lives of cats and dogs in our care, and appreciate each of our participants compassion!

Many individuals go above and beyond, raising hundreds of dollars to increase their impact and inspire their friends and family with their passion for pets. Melissa, who has nearly reached her $500 goal, is one amazing advocate for the pets in our care.

Jack and Suki, 2014

Melissa shared her inspiration and passion with us:

“I have two dogs that never would have made it without Animal Humane: Suki and Jack. Suki was adopted in 2007, and was a six month old transfer from a high risk shelter. Jack was a runt surrendered by a breeder when he was only days old; he was very sick and may not have made it with our Animal Humane’s Foster Care and Clinic Teams. When I saw his face on Animal Humane’s website, I knew he was meant for our family.

“I would watch rescue videos and see these amazing stories of animals that are given a second chance and thought about helping but never made the time. After following the journey of Cane, a rescued dog, I was moved to “paw it forward” and wanted to do something to help homeless pets; especially the bully breeds. I love my pets and couldn’t imagine my life without them… they’re not just our pets, they’re our family. Shortly after Cane passed away, my mother in law succumbed to brain cancer and I learned she was a supporter of Animal Humane New Mexico; it was my final inspiration to do something.

“So, I signed up for Doggie Dash and to volunteer for Animal Humane. She would be so proud.

“If I could, I would rescue them all, but right now, I can do the next best thing by raising money and volunteering to help other Canes, Sukis and Jacks find homes.”
