maverick-web-2 roxieLast week, we heard from our Clinic Team that one of our shelter dogs helped save a life! Maverick is a 2-year-old Rottweiler cross (and hero). He donated blood to one of our Donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic patients who had a low blood count following a difficult surgery and needed a blood transfusion.

Our team selected Maverick for his age, size and overall health… and he did a great job! The recipient dog is named Roxie, a Boxer who had a large mass that was bleeding prior to surgery. Combined with the normal blood loss of the procedure, her blood count dropped post-operatively. Our skilled Clinic Team quickly jumped into action, collecting blood from Maverick and getting Roxie started on her transfusion. She did great and is feeling much better!

Afterwards, Maverick received a special treat from our Clinic Team as a thank you and to help get his blood sugar back to normal levels. Thank you so much Maverick for being Roxie’s hero!

Maverick is currently on hold for a prospective adopter. Wish him luck in finding his perfect match!
