Naming Animal Humane New Mexico in Your Will Some of the largest charitable gifts Animal Humane receives come in the form of distributions from estates. Each of these gifts allows us to fulfill our mission to improve the lives of New Mexico’s companion animals through sheltering, adoption, community education, providing quality veterinary services to families in need and programs that reduce pet homelessness. There are many ways you may structure your gift to Animal Humane. Your bequest may be: A stated dollar amount, or a percentage of the value of your estate A gift of securities (stocks, bonds, or mutual funds) A gift of property, such as real estate, collections, art, or jewelry A share of the residual or the amount that remains after providing for your heirs and paying all debts and costs The remainder or share of the remainder of a living trust or charitable remainder trust You may also make gifts outside your Will. The term “planned giving” refers to a charitable gift that requires some planning before it is made. When a donor decides to leave assets to Animal Humane in his or her Will, they are making a bequest. The donor’s estate will receive a charitable estate tax deduction at his or her death, when the gift is made to Animal Humane. Types of Planned Gifts Revocable Living Trust: As the name implies, these trusts are created during the lifetime of the donor and may be changed or revoked at any time by the person who created the trust. Upon death, ownership of property transferred to the trust is determined immediately as set forth in the trust document. Trust property may forego the probate process—opposed to property distributed through a will—ensuring that your charitable wishes are carried out in a timely and cost-effective manner. A gift of this nature may also lower estate taxes owed at the time of your passing. Charitable Remainder Trust: This trust makes payments, either a fixed amount (annuity trust) or a percentage of trust principal (unitrust), to Animal Humane to receive income. The donor may claim a charitable income tax deduction and may not have to pay any capital gains tax if the gift is of appreciated property. At the end of the trust term, Animal Humane receives the remaining funds in the trust. Charitable remainder unitrusts provide some flexibility in the distribution of income, and thus can be helpful with retirement planning. Provisions may be included in your trust that allows income to be redirected back to you as needed at a future date. Charitable Lead Trust: This trust makes payments, either a fixed amount (annuity trust) or a percentage of trust principal (unitrust), to Animal Humane during its term. At the end of the trust term, the remaining assets can revert back to the donor (a grantor lead trust) or to heirs named by the donor (a non-grantor lead trust.) The donor may claim a charitable income tax deduction for funding a grantor lead trust or a charitable gift tax deduction for funding a non-grantor lead trust. [...]

Cat Behavior Modification Suites – $25,000 (1 remaining) This suite will provide unique housing to support cats overcoming behavior issues and prepare them to be wonderful companions in their new homes. Kitten Adoption Suite - $50,000 (1 remaining) In the course of one year, over 700 kittens will be adopted from our Kitten Adoption Suites. Your gift will support the joy of bringing one of these precious little lives into a new loving home. Clinic Exam Room - $20,000 (1 remaining) The addition of this valuable Clinic Exam Room will greatly improve the efficiency and flow of patients, and their pets, through our busy Donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic. Thanks to Smith’s Community Rewards program, all you have to do is enroll online, choose us as your designated nonprofit, then shop at Smith’s using your rewards card. eBay's MissionFish MissionFish provides the e-Bay online community with an easy way to donate a portion of their online sales to the pets residents at Animal Humane! How does it work? 1. eBay sellers select the percent of their sale items they wish to donate to Animal Humane. 2. Their eBay listing(s) appear with a special eBay Giving Works symbol—notifying potential buyers of their philanthropic spirit! 3. As listings sell, MissionFish collects donations from sellers and distributes proceeds directly to Animal Humane. Wish List A forever home is at the top of our pet residents' wish lists, but your generous donations of items also make a difference for the pets in our care. Here is a list of our top needs: Grain-free food (dry & canned for dogs & cats) Dry cat & dog food for our Pet Food Bank Tin-foil Baking Pans (the kind you might use to make a lasagna) We use these for litter pans. PetAg brand KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) Dog and Cat Pheromone calming collars Jolly Balls Dog beds Graco Pack n’ Play Pens (normally for toddlers, we use these for bottle-fed pups as they begin to grow, move around, and wean off milk replacer) Canned kitten food – Pate-style and poultry-based only, please! (Fancy Feast makes an excellent product like this for kittens) Frontline Spray and triple antibiotic ointment Frequently, we work with local business partners for limited-duration support. Many people own appreciated stock—stock that has risen in value over time. Often these donors give stock instead of cash because they have discovered the value and enjoyment of stretching their giving power by donating the appreciation and avoiding paying taxes on it later. It’s easy to support Animal Humane New Mexico through workplace giving programs. Many employers sponsor annual workplace giving campaigns through which employees can elect to make payroll deductions to selected nonprofit organizations. If you are a federal or state employee, or you work for a corporation that provides a workplace giving program, this is a very simple and convenient way to support our life-saving work.
