  • Camp Humane

    Our 4-acre Main Campus makes the perfect setting for animal-loving youth ages 8 - 13 to learn more about caring and advocating for companion pets. Through learning activities and crafts, animal interactions, visits from special guests and field trips to other animal-welfare organizations, campers spend their time with us exploring topics such as: how to care for and train many types of companion animals how to be responsible pet guardians careers with animals animal welfare the challenges that animals face how humans can help. Each camp session is led by Animal Humane’s professional Humane Educators, with help from Animal Humane Education Volunteers and, during the summer, Youth Volunteer Counselors, trained students age 15-18 who wish to volunteer some of their summer hours to help homeless pets and their community. 2017 Winter 2-Day Adventure Camps Join Animal Humane for a fun winter experience like no other! Our 2-Day Winter Adventures are designed to let children explore animal-related topics over a few days of the school winter break. Both Winter Adventure Sessions run from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch. Snack will be provided in the afternoon. Open to children ages 8 to 11 years. Cost - $65/child 2017 Winter  Adventure Sessions: Cool Cats & Critters Adventure: December 18 & 19, 2017 For this 2-day adventure, we’ll spend time doing fun crafts and activities while learning about cat care and about how other animals, like wildlife, take care of themselves during the winter. We’ll explore cat body language, learn about picking and making great toys, discover the fun of clicker training with cats and, of course, spend some time with our cats and kittens. We’ll even help decorate our Cat Adoptions buildings for the holidays! We will also spend time discovering what winter means in the lives of our wild neighbors and make some great take-home crafts. Happy Howlidays! Adventure: December 20 & 21, 2017 For this 2-day adventure, we’ll  spend time doing fun crafts and activities while learning about caring for human's best friend, dogs! We will learn about communicating with dogs through body language, how to teach our dogs new tricks using positive reinforcement training, and, of course, spend some time hanging out with Animal Humane's adoptable pets. We will even help decorate our kennels for the holidays! Winter Adventure FAQs: How many campers are in each session of the Winter Adventures? Space is limited to 15 campers per session. Can campers attend both sessions of the Winter Adventures? Yes! We will cover different topics for each session. What is the cancellation policy for the Winter Adventures? Camp registration can be cancelled up to 1 week in advance of the camp session for a full refund. Cancellations less than a week in advance will not be refunded. All other policies are the same as for our Summer Camps. Please see the Policies tab below. How do I register? Junior Volunteer Counselors Junior Volunteer Counselors are teen volunteers who assist the Learn Humane Educators as they teach campers about humane attitudes and responsible pet care during the week-long summer sessions of Camp Humane. Camp Humane includes four 1-week sessions for campers ages 8-13 years old. Each day, campers will participate in new games, visits with guest speakers, arts and crafts and other activities aimed at teaching them how to be compassionate towards others and be kind and act responsibly to the pets we share our lives with.     Join us at the 12th Annual New Mexico Humane Conference! The New Mexico Humane Conference is the Southwest's forum for educational and networking opportunities in animal welfare. Our comprehensive sessions are open to animal welfare professionals, animal control officers, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, animal rescue groups, animal trainers and anyone interested in learning more about animal welfare. Our wide range of engaging topics encourage participants to both learn and collaborate with others in our field.     Animal Humane New Mexico & the Albuquerque Film Office are paw-sitively delighted to host the 3rd Annual Feline Film Festival on Saturday, June 24. Join us for a screening of fantastic feline films in a new film competition! In 2015, we hosted our first feline-centric film festival and nearly 300 cat lovers showed up with 30 submissions from local directors! This year, we are continuing the event’s success and highlighting all of our local talent with our Feline Film Festival. In Albuquerque, there are thousands of pet lovers eager to spend an evening both supporting homeless pets and celebrating their own cuddly cats. We are excited to bring this paw-pular event to Albuquerque’s historical KiMo Theater as it continues to grow! Celebrate fellow Cat People and the pet stars in their lives, as well as the funny, sweet and sometimes silly antics that make felines our favorite family members. Meet adoptable kittens, create playful cat crafts, and show off your purr-sonalities in our photo shoot!
