Imagine a destination so welcoming, soothing, and inviting that people want to come and spend time there.  A place to meet a new love, to learn, to heal. Can you imagine this is an animal shelter?  This is what we imagined when we envisioned what Animal Humane should be for the future. And the future is very, very near.

Project Humane launched in the spring of 2012 … a $5.0 million dollar capital campaign that has transformed our Main Virginia Street Campus into a beautiful, welcoming place for pets and people alike. Our housing has been upgraded to offer compassionate shelter that promotes and restores health for the pets we serve. Our campus has become a center for meeting, adopting, training and learning about pets.

In conjunction with achieving our $5.0 million dollar Project Humane fundraising goal, we are pleased to announce that our new central park will be formally named Harbor Lights Park in honor of a donor who made a major gift to our campaign in memory of a beloved dog … Harbor Lights. This precious pet’s memory—and their spirit of giving—will always be alive on our campus!

We invite you to learn more about our landmark project that has changed the future for at-risk pets in New Mexico and redefined the shelter experience for pets and people.
