Marketing Intern

Job Summary
The Marketing intern is an unpaid part-time position in the Marketing Department. This dynamic team member assists in planning of promotional and fundraising events, promotion of our organization, marketing research and production of marketing collateral.

Specific Duties

  1. Assist in planning & logistical tasks for Doggie Dash & Dawdle, our signature event and largest fundraiser
  2. Promotion of our organization via social media
  3. Production of marketing materials
  4. Update & distribute weekly e-blasts to Animal Humane Adopters
  5. Planning & execution of outreach/awareness events
  6. Continual industry research to discover new/best methods to achieve our mission
  7. Represent Animal Humane and promote our organization at outreach events
  8. Provide creative insight and suggestions to improve and progress Animal Humane’s image in the community.
  9. Maintain a high level of professionalism when representing Animal Humane to the general public.
  10. Work as a team member among all departments of Animal Humane.

Internship Requirements
Typically requires enrollment in pertaining continuing education and/or design certification or college degree. Previous non-profit experience a plus.

Marketing Coordinator

Job Summary

The Marketing Coordinator is a part time position in the Marketing Department.  The person in this position will support the Marketing Department in all strategies and tactics established to promote and fundraise for Animal Humane’s adoptable dogs and cats and our programs through special events and outreach efforts. 

Specific Duties

  • Under the direction of the Marketing Director and Community Relations Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating details of agreed upon events. This includes monitoring volunteer needs, distributing promotional materials to partners & volunteers, updating master event calendar information, occasional appearances and other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate and distribute all outreach boxes for events; coordinate and grow outreach volunteers.
  • Support the Marketing Department with execution of the Cookie Paws Cause campaign.
  • Coordinate mailings for Doggie Dash & Dawdle and other events as needed.
  • Oversee email database maintenance; assist with e-blast creation and social media, particularly featuring adoptable pets and events.
  • Attend Doggie Dash & Dawdle monthly planning committee meetings.
  • Assist the Community Relations Manager with coordination of Doggie Dash & Dawdle’s Barketplace, including solicitation, reservations, and distribution of information.
  • With support from the Community Relations Manager, coordinate and grow Doggie Dash & Dawdle’s Team Fundraising program.
  • Assistance with data entry for Doggie Dash and other event analysis.
  • Submit all calendar listings to community calendars.
  • Archive all print media for the organization.
  • Assist with website content production & some minor graphic design updates.
  • Update and maintain project checklists, timelines and records.
  • Support all Animal Humane special events, such as, but not limited to, Doggie Dash & Dawdle, adoption events and outreach events. 
  • Support the Community Relations Manager in Business Support activities including growth of new partners to reach fundraising goals and increase promotion of adoptable pets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Education
    Undergraduate degree in a related field such as communications, public relations, marketing or business is strongly preferred. 
  • Required Skills and Abilities
    • Must possess strong written and oral communications skills
    • Must possess valid state driver’s license
    • Strong work ethic, creativity and passion for field
    • Ability to work effectively on an intra- and inter-departmental level
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of files or other documents

    • Ability to multi-task, work rapidly and meet deadlines under pressure
    • Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and organizations, including staff, volunteers, board, general public, businesses, media, and community leaders.
    • Microsoft Office and internet skills required.
    • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are valuable.
    • Exceptionally strong public speaking and presentation skills required. 
    • Demonstrate positive team attitude and commitment. 

Experience

A minimum of 1-3 years of directly related marketing and event experience is required.  Other related fundraising, educational and/or professional community related experience will be helpful.  Non-profit experience a plus.

Retail Associate

Job Summary: Assists management by working as a team member and providing customer service in receiving and/or selling merchandise.  Assists in processing incoming merchandise, stocking the sales floor, merchandising, sales, and inventory control.  Participates in and promotes animal safety and wellness.  Shares information to enhance the public’s knowledge of animal welfare as well as their knowledge of Animal Humane’s mission and programs. 

Eligibility Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.  One year of retail sales or customer service experience.  Thrift experience preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in the English language.  Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of retail store environment.
  • Work as a team member.
  • Cash handling experience in a retail operation
  • Exercise good judgment and decision making skills.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with associates, volunteer participants, and the public in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Must be physically capable of handling 50 pounds routinely.
  • Demonstrate and employ safe lifting techniques when handling or moving heavy or large items.
