Veterinary Technician/Veterinary Assistant

Animal Humane New Mexico: For thousands of homeless and family pets, Animal Humane is a place of hope. It’s a place where dogs and cats can find new homes, where disadvantaged families can receive high quality, affordable medical care for their pets, and where our teams of 85+ employees are always seeking solutions that will enable us to save even more lives.

Position: We are seeking Registered Veterinary Technicians & experienced Vet Assistants
At our Donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic, our talented team works with extraordinary compassion to assist pets every day:

  • Recently, we treated a litter of motherless neonatal puppies with a serum to assist in establishing the maternal antibodies they lacked
  • We performed a successful surgery on Denali, who had a large oro-nasal fistula
  • We helped Ellie, a tiny underweight and hypothermic kitten transform from a ball of fur barely able to lift her head to a ravenous, meowing calico.

Who We Are: Since our founding nearly 50 years ago, Animal Humane New Mexico has transformed into a vibrant, innovative place that saves more than 6,000 homeless pets each year. We have renovated our 4-acre campus, and are extremely proud of the ways in which we are able to more effectively care for our pets. We are the state’s leading private animal shelter, and provide services including a full spectrum of veterinary care, behavior services, community outreach and education and adoptions.

Who You Are: You're looking for an experience that is challenging, fast paced and hones your skills. You take fun seriously and enjoy working with a highly-skilled group who is passionate about making a difference every day. You are a Vet Tech who wants to help pets and advocate for them. You like being challenged and learning from your coworkers while positively influencing them in return.

Your Day: Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants are responsible for assisting with the medical care, treatment, handling of all of our patients while meeting expected protocols. You will prepare patients for surgery, assist with treatments, monitor anesthesia, administer medications and participate in medical rounds. Facilitating good working relationships through teamwork and collaboration is essential for your success and the success of the team.

Our Main Campus: Animal Humane is centrally located near Wyoming and Central in Albuquerque, NM, with easy access to I-40 and I-25 freeways.

Why is Animal Humane a Great Place to Work?

  • Great environment: We are a team environment that respects one another and knows how to have fun while working hard. We offer both fulltime weekday and alternative workweeks.
  • Competitive pay and fantastic benefits: Salary is commensurate with skills and there are annual opportunities for increases. Our benefits plan includes health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; paid time off; some paid CE; retirement plan; supplied scrubs and discounted veterinary care for your pets.
  • A chance to grow your career: We believe deeply in helping our teams expand their skills. Our facility is favored by those seeking to expand technical expertise beyond what an RVT would encounter in private practice. We encounter a broad spectrum of cases through our shelter as well as our public clinic.
  • An opportunity to help homeless pets: While you'll be seeing owned animals too, our hospital provides a wide variety of medical care to our shelter animals. And, as a part of  the largest and most successful animal welfare organization in the state, your hard work will directly support programs that save the lives of homeless pets, right here in our community!

We welcome applications from people who contribute to our diversity. We look forward to hearing from you.
