Training at Animal Humane uses reward-focused techniques designed to strengthen the relationship between you and your pet. Students are taught how to reinforce good behavior and remove rewards to discourage inappropriate behavior. Animal Humane does not promote choke chains or prong collars, but other, more humane training aids are used.

Start your puppy off on the right paw with playtime with other dogs and interactions with new people. Puppies will also receive training in general manners such as sit, down, stay and coming when called. Coaches will be available to answer questions about behavior issues such as housetraining, chewing and jumping up on people.

Civilized Canine 6-week course of training Ages: 6 months of age and older
Is your dog new to training or could use a refresher course in basic obedience? Dogs will receive real-world basic obedience training in sit, down, stay, loose leash walking and coming when called. Common behavior issues such as housetraining, jumping up on people, mouthiness when excited will also be addressed.

Do you own a Pit Bull? Interested in training and agility?
The Pit Crew offers this 8-week training course specifically for Pit Bull owners and their dogs. Dogs will receive real-world obedience training in sit, down, stay, loose-leash walking and coming when called. Common behavior issues such as housetraining, jumping on people and mouthiness when excited will be addressed, along with discussions of Pit Bull care. In addition, you and your dog will get to use our agility equipment and work as a team negotiating obstacles and running the agility course. This will give you and your dog an introduction to the fast-paced fun and competition of agility.
Pit Crew classes are free of cost for owners ages 12-20 years, and specially priced at $15 for owners 20 years and over.

Come learn the basics of agility in a fun, light-hearted setting. You and your dog will learn the main components of competition agility, but without the intense rules and stress. Agility competitors teach their dogs to do commands from afar, to pause in a given command, and to jump or weave through special equipment. Agility activities are wonderful for both physical and mental stimulation for you and your dog! This 7 week course provides an introduction to agility and is a great way to strengthen your dog's basic obedience skills while learning new behaviors. Dogs must be at least 5 months of age and have had basic training to participate. Costs for our classes are $75 for Animal Humane alumni (previous adopters) and $100 for the public.
